Second Oregon prisoner dies after COVID-19 contract
Ontario, Oregon (AP) — State correctional authorities say prisoners at the Snake River correctional facility in Ontario died Wednesday after contracting for COVID-19.
Oregonian / OregonLive reports that this death marks the second death of a person who was diagnosed with a virus positive under Oregon Department of Corrections detention. The first was a prisoner in Oregon who died in May.
Prisoners who died this week were between the ages of 60 and 70 and were inspected Tuesday, officials said. His test results, returned on Friday, confirmed that he had the virus.
The Department of Corrections did not reveal the man’s name or biography, or his exact cause of death.

An Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) adult detainee (AIC) died on August 12, 2020. He was imprisoned in a Snake River correctional facility and died in a clinic. He tested positive for COVID-19. He was 60-70 years old. As with all deaths in detention, Oregon police have been notified and a health examiner will determine the cause of death.

Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, the DOC issued a press release when AIC died. This notice will include the person’s name, convicted county, sentence length, and date of death. However, the cause of death is not listed because the medical examiner makes that decision.
