Children's Hospital denies spots for heart transplant girls due to vaccination situation: “That's not right”
Cincinnati (WXIX/Grey News) – Mom says the child's hospital refused to put his 12-year-old daughter on the heart transplant list due to vaccination status.
Jenine Diehl and her husband adopted Adalin from China as their 4-year-old, learning that one day they would need a heart transplant.
Adalin lives with Ebstein's abnormalities and Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome.
“I'm scared to her. I mean, she's my child and I want the best for her,” Deal said.
The Batesville, Indiana family receives most of Adalin's medical care through Cincinnati Children's Hospital. But now they are looking for another hospital after Cincinnati children refuse to put Adalin on the transplant list.
At Cincinnati Children's Hospital, transplant patients must have both the flu and Covid-19 vaccines, but neither of them have received adarin.
The deal, citing religious reasons, neither of the 12 children have been vaccinated. They identify as nondenominational.
“Her father and I feel very strongly that the Holy Spirit is telling us, 'Please don't put this vaccination in her body,'” the deal said.
The deal said she requested a religious exemption for Addalin, but the hospital denied it.
“He came back and said they weren't going to change their policy. This is what it is and we're welcoming to find another hospital if we don't like it.” She said.
Deal said she was unhappy with the policy.
“That's not right. I don't believe in doing the vaccination part,” she said.
A spokesman for Cincinnati Children's Hospital provided the following statement:
“At Cincinnati Children's, clinical decisions are guided by science, research and best practices. We work with families to coordinate care plans for each patient to ensure the safest and most effective treatment. I'll do that.”
The contract says Pittsburgh Hospital has contacted her family and they are considering taking Adalin there for further treatment.
Adalin said there is no deadline for when a heart transplant is needed, so the family still has time to grasp the next move. ”
