The norovirus is running. How do you know if you have it?
Cincinnati (WKRC) – Norovirus is often referred to as “winter vomiting disease,” and is playing rounds across the United States, with health officials warning of its highly contagious nature.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the virus can easily spread through particles and remain contagious for up to two weeks after symptoms continue to sink.
Ohio Health Co-operation Tiffany Mattingly said that while most people recover from nausea, vomiting and diarrhea caused by the norovirus, this could lead to hospitalization.
The CDC advised that the only way to confirm norovirus infection is to use stool samples. To prevent spreads, the CDC emphasizes the importance of washing your hands, especially after changing diapers, touching common surfaces, shaking hands, and caring for sick people.
Noroviruses often have their nicknames in limited spaces, such as cruise ships, or during cold seasons when people are indoors. If gastrointestinal symptoms suddenly appear, it is recommended to avoid contact with others for at least 48 hours.
Symptoms usually last for 1-3 days, but if it worsens, it is recommended that you seek medical attention.
