Will peanuts without allergies become the future?

One in 10 adults and one in 13 children have food allergies, Research and education on food allergies An association that declares trends.
One of the most common and growing allergies is the response to peanuts. The Allergy Association said data from insurance claims found that the annual incidence of peanut allergies for 1-year-olds between 2001 and 2017 was tripled, and that responses are increasing in adults as well. It's there.
Just as this potentially life-threatening allergy is common, he says little is known about the body mechanisms and food interactions that cause allergic reactions. Jing-kewengNortheast University specialist in phytochemistry.
Wen and his collaborator, Dr. Seth Lakov Nahome, from Boston Children's Hospital. Pew Innovation Fund What they say is that it can lay the foundation for treatments to combat food allergies.
Weng, a professor of chemistry, chemical biology and bioengineering, could even design peanut plants to prevent them from causing allergies in the first place.
Weng and Rakoff-Nahoum use isotopic labeling of peanut plant proteins to accurately track the pathways, modifications, and host interactions of food molecules, and see where the body's allergic reactions come from.
“The award supports a project we both have been discussing for a very long time to map food geography,” Wen says.
“We don't really know what part of the GI tract (plant) protein is perceived as potentially dangerous by the immune system,” he says.
“Our hypothesis is that some of the proteins that cause allergies are very stable and they actually endure exposure to stomach acid.”
The purpose of this study is to identify where peanut proteins interact with immune cells and to induce an allergic reaction, whether in the small intestine, spleen, liver, or elsewhere, Wen says.
Researchers trace the peanut protein pathway by incorporating stable isotopes and making them slightly heavier than their other naturally produced counterparts.
“Let's say you grow peanut plants in a growth chamber and feed carbon-13-labeled carbon dioxide,” says a naturally occurring isotopes that are heavier than standard carbon 12 isotopes.
“As the plants mature and incorporate this labeled carbon dioxide into the seeds into the biomass, they carry a slightly heavier proportion of protein. They can feed these peanuts to the animals and track exactly which proteins landed where You can do that,” he says.
“We want to know which organs are actually responsible for the initial recognition of antigens on peanut proteins,” Wen says.
“I want to know exactly where this process is happening, I want to map it,” he says. “If you understand that exact molecular recognition, it's really a lock and a key.”
Let's say that allergy-causing proteins interact with a subset of T-cell receptors in the small intestine, he says.
“We can potentially design therapeutic interventions,” Wen says. “We do basic science that addresses important, very basic questions, but that affects treatment design.”
With a background in drug discovery, Wen says coming up with a treatment candidate is the next step and that he and Lakov Nahome are ready to tackle.
Treatments could include antibody therapy or vaccines, Weng said.
“We also entertained the idea of engineered plants to have specific mutations in certain regions of proteins that are causing allergies,” he says. “Maybe it's a very subtle change in peanuts, but peanuts can't cause allergies.”
Researchers will also consider whether the general principles of discovering peanut research apply to different types of allergen proteins, Weng says.
He and Rakoff-Nahoum are one of 16 pairs of scientists from various fields who have won the Innovation Award.
Two researchers have been working together in recent years on how plant molecules affect the human microbiota, Weng says.
“We have a very general interest in how plant foods interact with the human body,” he says. “You can think of this three-way interaction. You have plants, you have humans who eat plants, and you also have microorganisms that live in the human intestines that help digest these foods. have.”

Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
