Research links link moderate coffee intake to reduce the risk of major diseases
Orlando, Florida – According to the National Coffee Association, 67% of adults drink coffee every day.
Researchers say that if you stick to the right amount, a coffee cup might be good for you as well.
Pouring a cup of coffee is part of most people's morning routine.
Many people drink it for its flavor and caffeine, but there are a few other perks too.
“There are some studies showing many nutritional benefits to coffee,” said Registered Dietitian Ashley Hins.
A recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that it could reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, and stroke.
For anyone who drank moderate amounts of coffee, 3 cups, or 200-300 milligrams of caffeine for a day, the benefits were the best.
Researchers at Mayo Clinic said coffee could also reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, liver disease, certain cancers and kidney stones.
“But the warning is of course caffeine,” Hins said.
The nutritionist said it's important to be aware of how much caffeine is consumed per day.
Too much can have a negative impact on your health.
“Caffeine can actually increase our anxiety and disrupt our sleep cycle,” she said.
Also consider how much sugar, cream and other things will be added to each cup.
Mayo Clinic warns that caffeine is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage. Women who are pregnant or are about to conceive suggest that they reduce their caffeine intake to 200 milligrams. This is about 8 ounce cup.
