The NYC Health Department warns a midtown patron at Manhattan restaurant Ilili that hepatitis A could be exposed to
Midtown Manhattan (WABC) – The New York City Health Department says a food handler at a restaurant in midtown Manhattan may have exposed his patrons to hepatitis A.
Anyone who dined at Iliri Restaurant, 236 Fifth Avenue, from January 31st to February 9th, is required to receive HEP.
Additionally, anyone who eats at a restaurant from January 17th to February 9th should monitor for symptoms for the next seven weeks.
These symptoms include yellow eyes and skin, fatigue, abdominal pain and nausea.
“We are urging patrons at these restaurants to consult with providers and take A-vaccine hepatitis as a precaution,” said Dr. Michelle Morse, representative health committee member. “If you experience symptoms such as eye and skin loess, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and other symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately, especially if you haven't taken the hepatitis A vaccine twice. The incident serves as an important reminder. Keep current vaccination recommendations up to date and always wash your hands thoroughly to prevent spread of illness.”
An Irili spokesman said it will open on Friday when they monitor the situation.
“On Wednesday, Iliri found out that one of the kitchen employees had tested positive for hepatitis A. As soon as they learned the diagnosis, they contacted the NYC Ministry of Health and Mental Health and communicated constantly with it. We are working with it. Since then, our kitchen continues to monitor as part of this effort, but we have fully inspected it for a violation of public health on Wednesday. We will deep clean the restaurant every four hours at night and introduce additional third-party cleaners to ensure disinfection.”
The spokesman said they always put the health and well-being of their customers and teams first.
