The first measles incident for LA County residents in 2025 was confirmed in individuals who visited local businesses and traveled through LAX
Los Angeles (KABC) – Case of measles A Los Angeles County resident, confirmed to have recently traveled to Los Angeles International Airport, the county's Department of Public Health said in a statement Tuesday.
According to the department, it was the first confirmed case of measles in 2025 in LA County resident.
Passengers assigned to a particular seat that may have been exposed to China Airlines' Flight Cal8/CI8, who arrives in Los Angeles on March 5th, will be notified by the local Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control.
Additionally, individuals who were at the next location on the specified date and time may be at risk of developing measles due to exposure to this individual.

The Fresno County Public Health Department also confirmed the measles incident Tuesday.
Last month, Orange County also confirmed cases of measles in a toddler who traveled through LAX.
The LA County Health Department says local cases “emphasize the importance of vaccinations.”
Measles outbreaks have also been reported in Texas and New Mexico.
There are at least 223 cases in Texas, 25 more than reported just a few days ago. At least 29 of these patients are hospitalized.

New Mexico recently reported 30 cases of measles.
Officials have not confirmed whether there is a connection between the two outbreaks, but said a decline in vaccination rates has led to an outbreak.
“Measles is not a harmless childhood infection. Especially when you see the Texas outbreak, there is more than one in five people in the hospital,” said Jim McDonald, director of the New York State Department of Health.
“As vaccination rates continue to erode, we are worried that these children will suffer again,” said Dr. Paul Offit, director of vaccine education.
Vermont also reported the state's first case of measles this year in school-age children.
What is measles?
Measles is a highly contagious virus that can cause serious illness. One in nine people exposed to the measles virus get infected if they are not immune through previous infections or vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Symptoms often begin one to two weeks after exposure. Early symptoms can appear to be high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and other common respiratory disorders that begin with white spots on the mouth.
