Lincolnshire Lung Cancer Patients Benefit from Support Group
The 35-year-old woman diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023 said she helped her recover from “a very traumatic and upsetting time” by joining a support group.
Rachel Bell, a native of Lincoln, added:
Breath of Hope was launched in 2024 by the United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (ULTH) for people affected by lung cancer and their family and friends.
Barbara Bambro, lung cancer care coordinator who helps launch the group, said the meeting was a “big success.”
Ms Bell, who attends the group with her mother, said that after learning she has a condition, the group helped her and shared “first-hand knowledge” with others.
John felt “a bit abandoned” after being told he had cancer in 2020, but the group helped him connect with other people in this condition.
His wife, Sandra, said the family also shared their experiences.
Sarah Ciferro, a specialist in clinical nurses for Macmillan Lung Cancer, said the guest speakers share knowledge about various subjects.
“We often discuss the side effects of treatment, healthy diet, exercise, diet and living challenges with cancer,” she added.
The meeting will be held every three months on Wednesday at Jubilee Hall in Hineton, Lincolnshire.
