I was ordered to undergo medical quarantine on Friday, March 13th, 2020. I couldn't prepare me for the next few days, weeks or months. As I stared at the video of my stupid pet for serotonin and escapism as I fought for death for eight nights, I saw the sun falling from my bed.
I was one of the first people to catch Covid, and it almost killed me. I still live that nightmare by having a long community. Long covid is the prolonged effect of having one symbiotic infection (advanced with multiple infections, which is not unheard of because long covid can harm the immune system).
Before Covid, I was an endurance triathlete signed up for a 70.3 mile race. I lived a very full and rich life, took comedy classes, sang in the choir, and worked in a profession I deeply loved. Now there's nothing the same. I can't remember the last time I ran because of an illness that most people don't know. No one wants to see us.
I have a question for you. Would you like to think of us in a long covid? We want your protest to include our illness. The long-term issue of COVID is a social justice issue. Over 7 million children and adults Americans need to know that we are still here. We're tired of fighting alone.
