Possible Measles Exposure at Starbucks, Bucks County: Officials – NBC10 Philadelphia
People who recently visited Starbucks in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, may have been exposed to measles, health officials said.
The Bucks County Health Department announced in a news release They identified measles cases among county residents.
Officials last week said several locations in the area (including Starbucks) could be contagious last week.
The individual tested positive for measles on the evening of Wednesday March 26th and experienced mild symptoms, officials said.
Officials say if you visit Starbucks at 2896 S. Eagle Road in Newtown between 10:50am and 12:30pm on March 19, you will need to monitor measles symptoms, especially cough, runny nose, or red eyes.
Other symptoms of measles include headaches, sneezing, and a rash of red skin beginning on the face and neck. Health officials said that infected individuals generally experience symptoms within 10 to 14 days of exposure.
The Health Department has contacted contacts that tracked all other locations that individuals have gone to, and during that time they will be notified of people who may be exposed to the virus.
“Two vaccines are 97% effective at preventing all diseases. However, while those who have been vaccinated can still develop measles, they are more likely to experience mild illnesses and therefore are less likely to spread it. “The best way to control this virus is to have a high level of community vaccination rates.”
Health officials said if you think you may be exposed to measles, you need to plan to seek treatment.
In a statement to NBC10 on Thursday, a Starbucks spokesman wrote:
“From the abundant care, and we have always placed the safety and welfare of our partners (employees) first, we closed our store to clean up at 2896 S. Eagle Road in Newtown, PA. The store will resume tomorrow morning (Friday, March 28th). For more information, please contact the Bucks County Health Department.“
