Parkinson's exercise program will begin at Newcastle Under Lime
A professional athletic program for people with Parkinson's disease is established in the town of Staffordshire.
The Newcastle Underlim Rose Council will launch its scheme on April 7th at Jubilee2 Leisure Center, funded by Charity Parkinson's Disease.
This includes group classes and individual gym sessions designed to alleviate symptoms of the condition.
People with Parkinson's disease often experience shaking, stiffness, and slow movements.
Local government sports and events manager Lucy Taylor said the program features circuit and spinning classes as well as sessions that improve posture, balance and flexibility.
It also includes access to the leisure centre gym and swimming pool.
“Being active 2.5 hours a week has been shown to help manage Parkinson's symptoms while also positively affecting your overall health and mood,” she said.
She added exercises that focus on core stability, balance, mobility, adjustment, flexibility, that is, what could be affected by condition.
Roma Hashim, Physical Activity Grant Manager at Parkinson's UK, said group activities also offer great social opportunities.
“Being active is one of the best ways to manage Parkinson's symptoms, as normal physical activity can improve your long-term physical and mental health,” he said.
