Almost 30% of tested Queens residents have the COVID-19 antibody

According to new data, nearly 30% of Queens residents tested for coronavirus antibodies appear to have the deadly virus at some point.

NYC Health Dept has been released data Today, it was revealed that 28% of the 477,450 inhabitants of Queens tested since the beginning of the pandemic returned antibody-positive results. Antibody tests determine if you have been infected with COVID-19 in the past.

Queens is second only to the Bronx, with approximately 33% of the population tested having antibodies.

It was found that more than half of the people in Corona who were tested had the antibody. This is higher than any district in New York City. The proportions of East Elmhurst and Jackson Heights were also high, at about 46% and 40% respectively.

These three Queens districts have the highest number of reported COVID-19 cases in New York City. Corona (11368 ZIP Code) was the most heavily damaged area in the five districts.

But scientists warn that much is still unknown about the reliability of antibodies. They have not determined whether these antibody-proteins that the body makes to fight off the virus provide immunity to COVID-19.

The Department of Health also noted that the percentage of residents infected by the virus may not be as high as these results indicate. For example, people who show symptoms of the virus are more likely to have the COVID-19 antibody test, especially when a pandemic develops.

The ministry today announced a breakdown of the new data as Mayor Bill de Brascio announced that the city would start exploring more detailed data points in tracking COVID-19 and its spread across the city. ..

Health commissioner Dave Chokushi said the city could repeatedly update antibody test results by zip code, and sort data by age, ward, neighborhood, poverty, and gender.

“We will be the first jurisdiction of a country to present antibody data in this way,” Chokshi said. “There is still a lot to learn about the science of COVID-19 antibody testing, but it is an important factor to consider when understanding the epidemiology of COVID.”
