Nova Scotia is trying to ease its waiting list as the COVID-19 pandemic continues-Halifax
When Nova Scotia prepares for the potential second wave of the novel Coronavirus, The state is trying to add short-term capacity to its long-term care system.
Ah Requested Information Request (RFI) The Nova Scotia bidding website indicates that the state is looking for suggestions from organizations that “can provide short-term capacity for long-term care systems in the next 24 months.”
When the pandemic peaked in Nova Scotia, the Department of Health worked with long-term care facilities to secure a large number of seats in the facility.
This enabled long-term care facilities to isolate, support and care for residents who were positive for the virus.
“But this support affects the waiting list,” state spokesman Mara McKinnis said in a statement to Global News.
The number of people on the waiting list was not immediately known.
McKinnis said the RFI was intended to help Nova Scotia mitigate the effects of an ongoing pandemic.

A review of Northwood’s pandemic response is ongoing, with recommendations by 15 September.
The review is completed under the Quality Improvement Information Protection Act and is led by Infectious Disease Consultant Dr Chris Rata and former Deputy Minister of Health, British Columbia, Lin Stevenson.
Recommendations are published after the review period, but are non-binding.
The short-term capacity RFI in Nova Scotia’s long-term care system is open until August 28.
