Anorexia Nervosa often prevents girls from growing, research shows
Thursday, August 20, 2020 (HealthDay News)-A girl with anorexia nervosa may have stunted growth, a new study suggests.
People with anorexia nervosa believe that even if they are light, they are too heavy. They can lose dangerous amounts of weight through a diet, excessive exercise, or overeating and purging.

In the report, the researchers investigated 255 girls around the age of 15 who were hospitalized for anorexia nervosa.
The investigators measured the patient’s height on admission and during adulthood. The study’s authors said that the adult height of women was much shorter than expected compared to the genetic potential measured by their parents’ height.
“It is recommended that height disorder is a marker of other complications of anorexia nervosa that, in some aspects, affect a person’s overall health: bone health, cognitive function. [mental] Problems with functioning and late pregnancy. Early diagnosis and treatment may prevent, or at least reduce, the risk of these complications,” Modan-Moses said in a news release from the Endocrine Society.
“This study could affect the management of malnutrition in adolescents with other chronic illnesses in order to achieve optimal adult height and bone health,” Modan-Moses added.
