Three mothers who gave birth during the fight against the coronavirus receive gifts from Hoda
Although baby preparation can be a mysterious experience, the coronavirus confused the moments of three pregnant women.
Born in Summerton, South Carolina, Shaquilla James joined Alicia Kappers in Cincinnati and Rocio Casalduc in Nashua, NH as a pregnant woman who was born while infected with COVID-19. They recently sat at TODAY’s Hoda Kotb to discuss their experiences and receive a care package.

James gave birth to a baby girl Aubrey two weeks ago and then went into a coma.
“I thought this might be the last time I met her,” she said. “So I thought about it, I prayed, and told them to go ahead and take her.”
Casalduc was infected with the virus during her five-month pregnancy and before the intubation she heard her doctor ask her questions that her parents didn’t want to hear.

“I asked if I had to choose between my life and my daughter’s life. Which one did you choose?” she said.
She woke up three weeks later and learned that she had a daughter Victoria, who is still in the NICU.
Coppers can’t even remember giving birth.
“My son and husband took me down to the ER,” she said. “8 hours later, I was on a ventilator.”
She continued to take oxygen for over a month and was in a coma when she gave birth to her son Wraith via the C-section.
“They also told me that when I gave birth, I shed a big crocodile’s tears and smiled, so I think it really just conveys the power of the subconscious,” she said.
Then all three women recovered and returned home.
“It’s beyond what you’ve been through. I’m investigating survivors, but beyond that,” Hoda said.
“Everyone, I think I’ve missed a lot of new moms get, and I’m sorry that they couldn’t take a baby shower.
She then told the woman that the package would be waiting at each previous step when the phone was over. Each woman opened a box from Pampers filled with an annual supply of balloons, toys, plush toys, bags, diapers and wipes.
“It’s a blessing to me and my family, and I just want to say thank you, thank you, and thank you again,” James said.
