Summit County Offers Opioid Reconciliation to Western Reserve Hospital-News-Akron Beacon Journal
Summit County recently provided the medicines it received as part of a federal opioid lawsuit to Western Reserve Hospital.
As part of the settlement with Endo Pharmaceuticals, the county will receive Vasostrict and adrenaline chloride solutions, commonly used to treat overdose, in three orders worth a total of $30,000.
Two additional orders will be supplied to other Summit County facilities in the future.
“The settlement with opioid manufacturers and distributors has allowed us to begin the daunting task of helping Summit County recover from the opioid epidemic,” said Irene Shapiro, Summit County Administrator. It was “Distribution of these drugs represents a significant step in our progress, but much work remains to mitigate the epidemics caused by these companies.”
As directed by the Federal Court of Justice, the settlement and drugs are used only to control the epidemic of opioids. The strategy focuses on four priority areas: treatment, harm reduction, system coordination, evidence-based prevention and education.

The Western Reserve Hospital emergency room will use the drug for its surgery and provide both drugs to the local EMS provider.
