Coronavirus: Sunnybrook Health Science Center Declares COVID-19 Outbreak in Ward-Toronto
Sunnybrook Health Science Center Authorities say that the outbreak of COVID-19 affects four patients in the operating room. Coronavirus..
A spokesperson told Global News that the outbreak was officially declared on Sunday in the emergency medical surgery department. The announcement was made in a statement on Monday.
The statement said an outbreak was declared when two or more patients being treated for other problems tested positive for the virus.

“As part of our recent routine oversight, we identified patients with COVID-19, which allowed us to quickly evaluate the unit and test all patients.”
“A total of four cases were confirmed, two of which remain in Sunnybrook. All other patients in the unit are negative for COVID-19.”
Hospital staff moved to stop hospitalization and visitors as they occurred.

“Affected patients are immediately quarantined and control measures are implemented, including staff devoted to the unit, subject to strict precautionary measures, increased surveillance, inspections and enhanced cleaning measures,” the statement said. ..
Officials said other parts of the hospital were unaffected as a result of the outbreak.
“The clinic and procedure will continue as usual. The hospital is safe for patients and other approved visitors and emergency medical partners,” the statement said.
