RMC doctor discusses the medical aspects of COVID-19 Coronavirus
According to officials, a live press conference on Monday has reduced the number of new COVID-19 patients in Calhoun County.
Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Tiffany De Boer said there were 353 new cases in the last two weeks, significantly fewer than a few weeks ago.
“The trend is going down,” DeBoer said before speaking to the county residents watching the video. “And it’s your fault.”
DeBoer encouraged locals to keep wearing masks, wash their hands frequently, and be socially separated from each other.
Dr. Armena Free, a doctor at the Community Health Center in Aniston, said there were 17 in one of the hospital’s COVID-19 units, with 8 or 9 using ventilators. She said there were seven patients in the second unit of the hospital.
According to Free, Monday’s morale was high among hospital staff and counseling services and pastors were available when needed. If another spike occurs, the hospital plans to do so, Free said.
DeBoer said there have been 2,168 cases in Calhoun County since the pandemic.
Free, said the hospital, in collaboration with a local funeral home, safely prepares and transports the bodies of those who have died after testing positive for COVID-19.
Free also said that retesting people who test positive for COVID-19 after recovery as a way to save resources is currently not recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and the Alabama Department of Public Health. States.
Patients can get infected within two weeks of being exposed to the first virus, Free said. She said hospital staff will be tested if they need to move patients from the COVID unit to another unit or to a particular nursing home.

Another possible treatment is to use plasma from people who test positive for COVID-19, Free said. She said it is used in “research-type atmospheres” and for “substantially ill” patients.
