It’s OK to drink caffeine during pregnancy

According to experts, those who plan to become mothers and women who are trying to make babies need to limit their caffeine intake, but a couple of cups of tea or coffee a day is enough.
Their comment is New research paper Medical journals suggest that there are no safe levels of pregnancy.
But experts say it’s vigilant.

Forty-eight studies on this topic were considered in the controversial research paper published in BMJ Evidence Based Medicine.
Professor James James, a psychologist at the University of Reykjavik in Iceland, who authored the article, is worthy of observation and no clear evidence that caffeine during pregnancy is harmful.
But he says his analysis of caffeine’s link to harm suggests that avoiding drinks like tea or coffee altogether is the best advice for pregnant mothers and women.
Other experts strongly object to this being overkill.
Like the NHS, the European Food Safety Agency and American and British Obstetrician and Gynecologist Colleges recommend limiting but not eliminating caffeine consumption during pregnancy.
Dr Luke Greskowiak, a pharmacist at the University of Adelaide in Australia, said the research paper was “overly vigilant” and inconsistent with accepted evidence.
“There are so many things to do, what not to do, and the last thing we need that are associated with pregnancy to cause unnecessary anxiety. After all, women should be reasonably pregnant during pregnancy. We need to be reassured that we can get caffeine.”
According to Andrew Shennan, an obstetrical professor at King’s College London, some studies in the analysis may be flawed because they rely on women who recall caffeine intake. He also said it would be difficult to eliminate other risk factors, such as those who drink tea or coffee smoke.
He said: “Caffeine has long been in the human diet.
“As with many substances found in the normal diet, harm during pregnancy is found in high doses.
“However, the observable nature of this data with its inherent bias does not ensure that low doses of caffeine are harmful, and that current advice to avoid high doses of caffeine is modified. It’s unlikely.”
