Payless employee tested positive for COVID-19
The Grand Bazaar Payless Shoe Source outlet is open today after being closed for hygiene in connection with the identification of COVID-19 positive cases.
This is because on Monday, the Ministry of Health notified businesses that employees of a branch of a shopping mall had a positive response to the new coronavirus (COVID-19).

Shoe retailers said the store was sanitized with the first notice that employees could be exposed to the virus, and then when positive test results were confirmed.
Jerus Mohammed, Payne Shoe Source Country Manager, Trinidad and Tobago, has confirmed that all health and safety guidelines for limiting the spread of COVID-19 are adhered to.
He said: “A temperature check is done on each member of the staff at the same time they start their shifts. Anyone who shows a fever, we let them go home and go to the nearest medical facility. I will advise you to undergo an inspection.”
Customers are also subject to a temperature check and must be disinfected upon entering all Payless stores.
Customers can use disposable gloves. All customers should always wear a mask covering their nose and mouth while in the store.
Alcohol-based disinfectants are also available everywhere.
All employees are required to wear a mask while the cashier has the additional protection of a face shield. An hourly hand-washing schedule is also useful for staff.
Due to the limited number of customers allowed at one time based on the size of the store, physical distance is maintained in the store.
Mohammed said Payless played its part in limiting the spread of the virus and would appeal to customers as well.
He said there were minor cases of people who didn’t want to wear masks, but customer feedback on the measures being taken was overwhelmingly positive, he said.
He called on his customers to follow a valid masking policy to ensure the safety of everyone.
Payless Country Manager said the measures are constantly being reviewed and adjusted as needed.
T&T’s COVID-19 active case is just under 1,000 and has been steadily increasing over the last few weeks. A total of 15 deaths have been recorded.
