According to a study at Tulane University, people suffering from conditions that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease had a higher mortality rate when they caught Covid.

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions such as obesity, high blood pressure, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and low high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.

Experts say that the more these diagnoses, the worse the results, when infected with a coronavirus.

The researchers followed the health status of 287 patients admitted at Covid at the Tulane Medical Center and the University Medical Center in New Orleans.

They monitored these patients from March 30th to April 5th.

This was the peak of the pandemic in New Orleans.

Researchers have found that over 85% of patients are non-Hispanic blacks.

What is Metabolic Syndrome?

The NHS states that metabolic syndrome is a combination of several states.

Patients with obesity, hypertension and diabetes fall into this category.

Putting all three together is especially dangerous.

What are the symptoms?

  • Can’t control sugar levels
  • Irritation and swelling of body tissues
  • West is over 94 cm for European men and over 90 cm for South Asian men
  • Women’s waist in Europe and South Asia more than 80 cm
  • High levels of fat in the blood
  • Blood pressure consistently above 140/90 mmHg

The average age was 61 years and the majority of patients were female (57%).

Almost 66% of the patients in the study had metabolic syndrome.

The most common conditions were hypertension (80%), obesity (65%), diabetes (54%) and low HDL (39%).

To make a valid comparison, researchers looked at two groups.

People with Metabolic Syndrome and People without Metabolic Syndrome

They found that 56% of patients with metabolic syndrome had to undergo intensive care for 24% who had no condition.

Of those requiring ventilator, 48% of those with metabolic syndrome needed ventilator, but only 18% of those without this condition had ventilator.

Patients with the condition and 37% of those with metabolic syndrome developed Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), compared to 11% of those without the condition.

Researchers found that 26% of patients with metabolic syndrome died-as many as 10% without status.

After considering age, hospital location, race, and gender, the researchers say that people with metabolic syndrome die 3.4 times more often than people without the condition.

Experts said they needed ventilators, had ARDS, and were five times more likely to be admitted to the ICU.

However, when only one of the metabolic syndrome and clustered states was identified, the study found no increase in mortality.

However, they said that being obese or diabetic was associated with a higher likelihood that patients would need to be ventilated or hospitalized in the ICU.

The first author, Dr. Joshua Denson, said:

“The more these diagnoses, the worse the results.”

He added that the underlying inflammation seen in metabolic syndrome may be a factor in causing these more severe cases.

“Metabolic syndrome should be regarded as a composite predictor of fatal outcomes for Covid-19 and increases the probability of death from the combined effects of the individual components,” Dr. Denson said.

Dr. Denson also advised that anyone with a metabolic syndrome should be vigilant about exposure to the virus.

“It doesn’t matter if you are young or old-we took it into consideration.

“You should really be careful. It should prevent your exposure and, if you get sick, probably see a doctor sooner.”

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
