How the West Nile virus is attacking four major counties in North Texas
In Tarrant County, 26.6% of mosquito samples have been tested positive for West Nile virus, but Dallas County has been spraying for four consecutive days.
The Dallas-West Nile virus season hit the four major counties in North Texas differently.
In Tarrant County, the highest number of mosquitoes in northern Texas were positive, and the West Nile virus died for the first time this season.
In Dallas County, it was sprayed from Saturday to Tuesday due to the recent Nile virus-positive mosquito pool.
Health officials from Frisco, Colin County, said they were increasing surveillance and using pesticides in certain areas of the city.
Denton County is currently dealing with the first reported human case of the West Nile virus season.

Tarrant County
During the week from August 9 to August 15, health officials in Tarrant County reported 55 of the 186 West Nile virus-positive mosquito pools. That’s 26.6% percent.

Of the 55 recent positive cases, 10 are Fort Worth, 7 are Grapevine, and 6 are North Richland Hills.
Tarant County reported a total of 357 positive mosquito pools this year, the highest record for any county in Texas. Fort Worth has 80 most positive results in Tarrant County.
Last Tuesday, Tarant County officials discussed the potential for airborne spraying of mosquitoes after an increase in West Nile virus cases.

The mosquito pool in Dallas has been tested positive for West Nile virus. County health officials said these areas were sprayed last weekend:

During the week of August 16 to August 22, the Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services said 42 mosquito traps that were positive for West Nile virus. Dallas County had 292 positive trap tests in 2020.

No human cases of the virus have been identified in Frisco. Frisco had nine pools this season.
The city of Plano also reported tests conducted on a pool of six mosquitoes that were West Nile positive.
Staff from the Plano Environmental Quality Division sprayed three locations on Sunday night and three other locations on Monday.

Plano health officials have asked residents to ensure that children and pets are indoors during the spray.
