HIV steadily climbs in South Carolina, DHEC promotes barrier identification Community
Greenville, South Carolina, South Carolina (FOX Carolina)-Health officials say 16% of people living with HIV in South Carolina don’t know they are. Ministry of Health and Environment staff will host a series of forums to strengthen prevention efforts.

As Jose Giocamea of AID Upstate Director of Community Relations said,
COVID-19 caused a reduction in testing. Statewide, DHEC says there was a 60% decline between the first and second quarter of the year.
But in the Upstate region, that number is about the same as last year, and testing is wise.
“It was closed in March and April, but saw a slight decrease, but the number of tests last year was essentially the same. People come out to take the test,” Giocamea said. It was.
Last year, AID Upstate tested about 1,500 people.
Lack of health care in rural areas has increased interest in advocacy and health leaders. Among them, the priority goal is to see a steady increase in infection rates.

“Interestingly, the prevalence of HIV tests rose in the second quarter,” Price said.
Some other issues of prevention are the stigma surrounding HIV, financial resources, and education.
DHEC has received a $1 million grant from the Department of Health Resource Management and continues to fight the epidemic.
“Likewise, I’m really happy to have the full funding to prevent HIV through the CDC. It used to be run by the federal government for $5.1 million. It also gave me $2.7 million.”
No part of the nation is immune to HIV. However, in Midland, the need for care is increasing.
