Guidelines for Nursing Home Visitors Approved by ADHS According to AARP
PHOENIX — Nursing home residents may be allowed visitors immediately after being quarantined for months.
The Arizona Department of Health approved the guidelines on Monday and allowed direct visits to nursing homes and other facilities, the AARP said in a news release.
The guidelines were proposed by the Governor’s Task Force on Long-term Care.
The following are the guidelines approved by ADHS.
- Visitors will present the facility with a negative COVID test (either PCR or antigen) within 48 hours.
- The visitor will be quarantined between the time the sample is taken and the visit and will sign a symptom-free certificate.
- The facility will limit contact as much as possible, including a dedicated visiting space.
- This property requires masks to be worn by residents (if safe), visitors, and staff.
- The facility requires hand hygiene before the visit.
- This property maintains a visitor log for the purpose of tracking contacts.
- The facility will implement enhanced cleaning and hygiene of the facility where the visit is made.
In a statement, the AARP said, “It is important for institutions to clearly communicate these visit guidelines to their families and residents. The new guidelines include all aspects of Arizona, including nursing homes, nursing homes, independent living and residential care. Applies to nursing homes.”
