Blue jeans releases 50,000 microfibers in a single wash to contaminate water

While they may be a comfortable and convenient choice for people working at home, blue jeans can be harmful to the planet.

Indigo denim microfibers have been found in large quantities in water samples taken across Canada from Toronto to the Arctic. Between 1/8 and 1/4 of all microfiber in the sample was blue denim.

Some microfibers were discovered at a depth of 1500 meters, and researchers say this means they can withstand long-distance migrations.The highest concentration of microfibers in jeans is found in shallow suburbs.
