NHS Blood and Transplant said “as many donors as possible” need to move forward
After the surge of coronavirus cases, the “urgent need” of plasma donors has been identified in Birmingham.
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) said it needs “as many donors as possible” to move forward.
It has been shown that over the seven days leading up to August 24th, 280 coronaviruses have occurred in Birmingham, increasing to 360 over the seven days leading up to August 31st.
Recovered plasma can save lives in people who are still sick.
According to the NHSBT, the fact that the Covid-19 incident occurred in the region means that there are more potential donors in the city than in many other parts of the UK.

An NHSBT spokesman said: “Birmingham has seen an increase in positive cases in recent weeks.
“Now we urgently need as many people as we can to recover for donations in order to make as much progress as possible.
“We can also freeze the donation to make convalescent plasma readily available. This will happen if the number of infections increases over the next few weeks.”
