Cats may catch COVID-19 at a much higher rate than expected
Chinese researchers have found that cats may capture a much higher proportion of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) than previously thought.
Researchers at Huazhong Agricultural University in a Chinese city took blood samples from 102 cats. Nasal and anal swabs were also collected.
This study, published in the journal Emerging Microbes & Infections, shows Covid-19 antibodies present in 15 blood samples taken from cats.

The authors note that this is a transient antibody response observed in humans, and their study should be used as a “reference for clinical treatment and prevention of Covid-19”.
