California coronavirus deaths exceed 14,000, but cases decline

California officials reported Thursday that more than 14,000 residents died of COVID-19, but cases of the new coronavirus continued to decline throughout the state.

Cumulative deaths have risen to 14,021 and have increased by 31 since Wednesday, but deaths have remained flat across the state and newly reported cases are on the decline. The 7-day average for Wednesday’s new case was 3,742, According to the data compiled by The Times — The first new cases since June 21st fell below 4,000.

Since July 27, the number of new cases has dropped significantly since the state recorded nearly 11,000.

State officials say an average of 93.1 deaths per day, reduced hospitalizations, and a 14-day positive rate of 4% in the last 7 days.

The time required for coronavirus testing has also been reduced. Dr. Erica Pan, a state public health officer, said in an online press conference that the institute is currently producing test results in an average of 1.3 days.

“We have made great strides,” she said.

Dr. Muntu Davis, a Los Angeles County health officer, said at a news conference that outbreaks in Los Angeles County workplaces, including warehouses and retailers, surged in July but are now declining.

Davis said the county sent inspectors to 331 companies, including restaurants, markets, hairdressers and barbershops, on the weekend of Workers’ Day to find “reasonably good compliance” with health regulations.

“But not everyone is at 100%,” he said. He said the hotel needs to be improved to ensure that patrons can wear face covers and restaurants while customers are six feet away.

Mayor London Breed of San Francisco announced that the city is accelerating its reopening and will allow indoor personal services and a limited capacity indoor gym from Monday.

“We are pleased to be able to move faster than expected to reopen businesses that were closed after March,” Bleed said in a statement. “These companies are struggling and will be able to take the necessary security measures and fixes from Monday and finally serve their customers again.”

In addition to the fitness center, businesses that reopen indoors with restrictions include hairdressers, barber shops, nail salons, and massage services.

The city has decided to follow local health indicators rather than reopening whatever the state allows.

Dr. Grant Corfax, director of the city’s public health department, said: “Our resumption pace can lead to more cases and hospitalizations as we can monitor the expansion, manage immediate challenges and mitigate the long-term impact on the city.” We will continue to be informed by our ability to manage the risks of more activities that have sex. “

Dr. Mark Girly, California Secretary of Health and Social Welfare, spoke at a state press conference to raise concerns about the health of wildfire shelters who may be looking for shelter with family and friends. I have stated.

He urged them to wear masks where they were staying, keep them away from others, and not share tables and utensils with people outside their immediate household.

Girly also praised the publication of Los Angeles County Guidance on this Halloween trick or treat — The county opposes it — and said the state is developing its own proposal. “It was the first thing that came to our minds,” he said. He warned that this year’s Halloween is quite different from the last few years of Halloween.

Officials in both the state and Los Angeles County have urged residents to wear masks, take their hands off, and be vigilant in washing their hands. State officials pointed out that local health officials were under great pressure during the pandemic.

“We need to get together as a community,” Pan said. “We have seen many divisions.”

On other COVID-19 issues, the California Supreme Court refused to overturn Governor Gavin Newsum’s instructions to limit classroom guidance to delay the spread of the coronavirus.

State Supreme Court filed in uncommented proceedings Orange County Board of Education Others to reopen school throughout the state.

Robert Tyler, one of the lawyers who filed the proceedings, said the court battle was not over yet.

“It simply means that the court does not intend to grant this proceeding to skip the lower court, so we must initiate the proceeding by submitting our claim to the High Court. “Tyler said. “I believe we can continue to win in the end, even if we go through the normal process.”

Orange County has moved to Tier 2 of the state surveillance system. This assesses the county’s ability to resume more fully. The reclassification will allow more companies, such as movie theaters, restaurants and places of worship, to relax restrictions and operate with limited capacity.

State officials also informed Orange County that they were eligible to reopen school on September 22nd.
