Coronavirus Vaccine Cobaxin Announces Successful Animal Testing

Bharat Biotech said the results demonstrated the protective effect of the Covid-19 vaccine in a live virus challenge model.

Vaccine maker Bharat Biotech announced on Friday that it had successfully tested the Covid-19 vaccine candidate covaxin in animals.
It said the results demonstrated the protective effect of the vaccine in a living virus challenge model.
“Bharat Biotech proudly presents the results of animal studies of cobacxin-these results demonstrate protective effects in a live virus challenge model,” tweeted a Hyderabad-based company.
He said data from studies on primates demonstrate the immunogenicity of vaccine candidates.
According to a detailed statement attached to the tweet, Bharat Biotech developed and evaluated the protective efficacy and immunogenicity of the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (BBV152) or cobacxin in rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulata). The 20 macaques were divided into 4 groups of 5 each.
“One group received placebo and three groups were immunized with three different vaccine candidates on days 0 and 14. All monkeys received SARS-CoV-2 14 days after the second dose. CoV-2 specific IgG and neutralizing antibody titers from 3 weeks post-immunization when a protective response was observed with increasing SARS. “

Bharat Biotech announced on June 29 that it has successfully developed covacin in collaboration with the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV).
The SARS-CoV-2 strain was isolated at NIV, Pune and transferred to Bharat Biotech. Indigenous inactivated vaccine candidates are being developed and manufactured at Bharat Biotech’s high containment facility in the Genome Valley of Hyderabad.
