Coronavirus: NISRA reports eight more virus-related deaths
According to the Northern Ireland Bureau of Statistics (NISRA), there were eight Covid-19-related deaths by September 11th last week. The total number of deaths associated with Covid-19 is 887.
Of this total, 473 (53.3 percent) were in hospitals, 352 (39.7 percent) were in nursing care facilities, 8 (0.9 percent) were in hospice, and 54 (6.1 percent) were in residential areas or elsewhere. .. The 360 deaths in long-term care facilities and hospice were associated with 81 separate facilities.
By September 11, the number of death comparisons reported daily by the Ministry of Health was 570. While these numbers are based on patients who were previously virus-positive, the NISRA numbers are based on the information entered on the death certificate provided by a healthcare professional. They may or may not have been previously tested positive for the virus.
A further analysis, including the deaths of long-term care residents in hospitals, found that 81.3% (352) of the 433 deaths of long-term care residents involved in Covid-19 during the year to September 11, 2020. It occurred in a long-term care facility. The remaining 81 are outbreaks in hospitals. Based on this, long-term care resident deaths account for 48.8% of all Covid-19-related deaths. However, it is not possible to guess where and when the deceased was ill.
An individual analysis based on the date of death registration shows that the total number of asphyxia due to all causes registered in Northern Ireland during the week up to September 11, 2020 (36 weeks) was 296, 62 less than 35 weeks. The average for 5 years, more than 20 weeks, is 276. Over the past 24 weeks, Northern Ireland has registered 1,141 “excessive deaths” (above the previous year’s average), with a cumulative total of 882 “excessive deaths” up to September 11.
Covid-19 was listed on the death certificate of 7 (2.4%) of the 296 deaths registered at 36 weeks. This is four more than last week (35 weeks), and the total number of Covid-19-related deaths is the calendar year from September 11th to 883.
People over the age of 75 accounted for two-thirds (64.9%) of all deaths, and 79.3% of Covid-19-related deaths were registered by September 11, this year.
For Covid-19-related deaths, those with addresses in Fermanagh and the Omar Autonomous Region (LGD) accounted for 17 of the 883 deaths registered in the calendar year through September 11.
