A trans woman, 46, dies of embolism during batlift surgery in Brazil when a doctor injects fat into her buttocks
The TRANS woman is the latest in a series of people who die while undergoing Brazilian batlift surgery in Florida.
Gia Romualdo-Rodriguez, 46, died this week after a fat injection into her buttocks during the procedure caused embolism.

She was traveling from her home at College Point in New York to attend the Xiluet Clinic in Miami as part of her transition to women.
The clinic is famous for performing plastic surgery such as chest enlargement, tummy tack, and butt lift.
The Miami Herald reports that at some point during surgery, Romualdrodriges’ oxygen levels and heart rate dropped dramatically.
Her surgeon, Dr. Stephanie Stover, called the paramedics and she was rushed to Kendall District Hospital, but died later.
The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner Office decided on Thursday that death was accidental.
Dr. Stober is accredited by the US Orthopedic Commission and has no record of disciplinary action.
Twenty deaths in the last decade
Over the last decade, at least 19 people have died, most of them in Miami, due to complications from the procedure Romuardrodriguez was doing.
Last year, the death prompted the Florida Medical Commission to set new rules that limit where surgeons can inject fat in the buttocks.
Injections into specific areas increase the risk of fat blockages entering the bloodstream by puncturing specific veins.
It has been reported that at least three people have died since the new rules were introduced.
Dr. Onelki Garcia, a member of the Florida Orthopedic Association, spoke with the Miami Herald and said:

Originally from Mexico, Rom Aldrodriguez has lived in the United States for about 20 years and was only recently qualified for asylum.
A friend of mine, Liz Chavez, said:
“She struggled a lot with discrimination from her family who didn’t want to accept it.
“It’s really hard for Mexicans to be transgender.”
Romuald-Rodriguez is a prominent member of the New York transgender community and reportedly worked with many outreach organizations.
Chavez said: “She was very beautiful. She had a great life.”
