2,700 flu shots, $ 11,300 raised for free flu shots on Saturday
More than 2,700 people received the flu vaccine in News Sentinel’s free flu shot on Saturday.
People who appeared at four Knoxville locations from 8 am to noon were vaccinated against the flu and asked to donate to an empty stocking fund. A total of $ 11,310 has been raised for a long-term charity that provides food and gifts to families in need during the holiday season.
“We are grateful to the Summit Medical Group, the Knoxville-area Rotary Clubs, and the University of Tennessee Nursing School, as well as the Blue Cross BlueShield of Tennessee Health Foundation for providing the grants that make this event possible,” said Tess Woodhull. This year’s event was a drive-through only and required a cloth surface cover due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There is no COVID-19 vaccine, but this year’s influenza vaccination protects against four influenza viruses that have been identified as being the most prevalent in the United States. Widespread administration of the flu vaccine may help prevent double outbreaks this fall and winter.
