Outbreaks of COVID-19 were declared in 52 schools in Ottawa’s fifth school, COVID-19 cases
Cases of COVID-19 have been reported in 52 schools in Ottawa, public health officials have warned staff, and students have begun to contact COVID-19 while at school.
An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared in Lycee Claudel. This is the fifth outbreak in Ottawa schools since the start of the school year three weeks ago. The Ottawa Public Health Service reports that two students in a private school in France are virus-positive.
In a statement to CTV News Ottawa, Ottawa Public Health states that some students and staff are beginning to find out that they are ill during school interactions.
“The first handful of cases were students and staff who went to school without knowing they were infected with COVID, which means they were infected with COVID,” a statement from the Ottawa Public Health Service said.
“Over the past few weeks, OPH has begun to notice that some students and staff are ill in school interactions. These are situations where OPH declares an outbreak.”
COVID-19 cases have been reported in 52 schools with the Ottawa Carlton District School Board, the Ottawa Catholic School Board, and the French Public and Catholic Board of Education.

The Ottawa Public Health Service has ordered the Monsignor Paul Baxter School to be closed for at least two weeks, following four cases of COVID-19. Two students and two staff tested positive.
The Ottawa Public Health Service states that in the event of a major outbreak in a school, the ability of the school to remain open depends on the number of affected groups of students. Some cohorts may be advised to go to the test at home and self-isolate at home until the date determined by the OPH.
“If there is sufficient evidence that there is a risk of spreading to an additional cohort, there may be a decision to close the entire school to stop the infection in the school.”

Ottawa Catholic Board of Education: 11 schools (14 students, 2 staff tested positive)
