Costa Rican Coronavirus Update, Friday, September 25-

 


Costa Rica announced a total of 812 17 new coronavirus-related deaths on the final day, according to official data released by the Ministry of Health on Friday afternoon.

Currently, 500 and 95 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. 237 people are receiving intensive care. Both represent a decline from Thursday.

The Ministry of Health confirmed 1,357 new cases on Friday, 1,133 of which were identified by laboratory tests, for a cumulative total of 70,816.

Cleared as a total of 27,023 people have recovered. The Ministry of Health says this number lags behind the actual recovery. Costa Rica has 42,981 known active cases.

According to data, Costa Rica has 15.9 COVID-19-related deaths per 100,000 people. The country killed an average of 15 people each day in nine days, and double-digit deaths for 13 consecutive days.

Costa Rica has 359 intensive care beds and 986 beds for less complex coronavirus hospitalization. This means that 66% of Costa Rica’s ICU beds are currently occupied.

Costa Rica enters the COVAX initiative

Authorities confirmed Friday that Costa Rica has signed a global initiative for the distribution of future coronavirus vaccines.

So Axios explains:

COVAX (led by the World Health Organization, the Alliance for Epidemics, and the Gavi Vaccine Alliance) is investing in the production of nine vaccines, including candidates from the United States, Europe and China. Approved ones will be distributed to all participating countries.

The United States has stated that it will not participate in COVAX due to the influence of WHO. According to Axios, China is not currently participating in COVAX.

According to WHO, COVAX provides doses to at least 20% of the country’s population and aims to be delivered as soon as the vaccine is available.
