515 new cases, 18 dead
Health officials in Massachusetts said 515 people were infected with the coronavirus as the state reported 18 new deaths on Saturday.
The 7-day positive test rate remained at .9% for the second consecutive day, slightly off the 0.8% minimum of sitting for more than a week.
The daily update on Saturday recorded 515 new cases of the highly contagious virus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 127,832.
Eighteen news deaths cost 9,178 confirmed deaths, and 213 are considered “potential” for COVID.
Health officials reported more than 14,310 tests for a total of 2,174,560.
The state’s average three-day death toll was 11, a decrease of one from the previous day. The state’s lowest since its peak in spring was 9, which happened three weeks ago.
The state reported that the average number of people hospitalized for the virus during the three days was 373. The lowest point after the state’s peak was 302.
The state reported 77 people in the intensive care unit, down one from Friday. Twenty-eight of them were intubated, three fewer than the day before.
Two hospitals are using surge capacity.
Of the 9,391 potential coronavirus deaths identified throughout the state, 6,032 were connected to long-term care facilities and 24,839 residents and workers were infected with the virus. The state says 383 facilities have seen at least one case.
According to a map of Johns Hopkins University, there were 7 million COVID-19 infections and 204,000 deaths nationwide. More than 2.7 million people have recovered. In Massachusetts, at least 111,479 people have recovered.
More than 32 million people worldwide are infected with the coronavirus and 990,000 have died. Over 22 million people have recovered.
