Counting 1,088 cases: Ottawa sets record for COVID-19 cases in a month
City of Ottawa-City of Ottawa surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 this month, with the 20-29 age group accounting for about one-third of all cases.
58 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Sunday, while 45 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Saturday.
Since September 1, Ottawa Public Health has reported 1,088 deaths confirmed by COVID-19 testing and 14 virus-related deaths. Since the pandemic began, 1088 cases per month are the second highest.
According to statistics available on the Ottawa Public Health website, 300 of the 1,088 COVID-19 cases that occurred in Ottawa this month are in the population between the ages of 20 and 29.
In Ottawa in September, 143 people aged 10-19 and 154 aged 30-39 tested positive for COVID-19.
Earlier this week, health care officer Dr. Bella Etch said that many people who tested positive for COVID-19 belonged to the group between the ages of 20 and 39.
In a statement posted on the Ottawa Public Health website, “40% of people between the ages of 20 and 39 who have been ill in the last few weeks have been in close contact with someone outside the home for COVID-19. “I got it,” writes Etches.

Ottawa recorded a daily record of 93 cases during a pandemic on Tuesday, September 21st. Eighty-two new cases were reported on Thursday.
The COVID-19 cases confirmed by 1,088 tests in Ottawa in September are the second total of new coronavirus cases each month since the start of the pandemic. The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed by examination in April was 1,178.
On September 18, Dr. Etch confirmed that Ottawa was in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The number is increasing and we are concerned about the speed of the increase,” Dr. Etch said after meeting with Prime Minister Doug Ford.
“We can’t sustain a spike in cases. We need to be able to keep them at a manageable level.”
As of Saturday, the Ottawa Public Health Service had declared a COVID-19 outbreak at eight Ottawa schools.
