Hope for a nasal spray that gave the ferret a “96pc infection cover”
A new study from Public Health England (PHE) shows that weekly nasal sprays can provide 96% protection from coronavirus.
New prophylactic treatments may move to human experimentation within months of successful ferret results.
The spray was originally developed to boost human innate immunity to colds and flu, but has been retested to see if it is also effective against the coronavirus.
Manufactured by Australian biotechnology company Ena Respiratory, it prevents the virus from replicating in the respiratory tract.
“We are amazed at how effective the treatment is,” said Dr. Christophe Demaison, CEO of Ena Respiratory.
“Our treatment has rapidly eradicated the virus by boosting the innate immune response of ferrets. If humans respond in a similar manner, the benefits of treatment are doubled. Exposure to the virus. The company is seeking additional funding to accelerate the clinical development and global distribution of nasal sprays. The official name of the drug is INNA-051, a synthetic small molecule that can be self-administered once or twice a week.
