Athens confirms 17 COVID-19 cases on September 28

Athens, Ohio (WOUB) — Since the pandemic began after 17 cases were confirmed on Monday, there are currently 724 cases of COVID-19 in Athens County.

The Athens Municipal Health Department confirmed the news in a press release on September 28th.

Analyzing data from the Ohio Department of Health, 13 of these new cases were 20-29 years old, 3 were 0-19 years old, and 1 was 30-39 years old. Additional cases required hospitalization, bringing the county to a total of 29 since the pandemic began.

As of Monday, there are 153 known active cases in the county. According to the local health department, there are 569 recovered cases. There are two deaths associated with COVID-19 in the county.

Before arriving at care, your doctor, emergency medical care, to let you know that anyone who is experiencing respiratory symptoms thinks they are experiencing COVID-19 virus-related symptoms. Or you will be asked to contact the emergency department.

The Ohio Department of Health announced 151,802 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state as of 2:00 pm on Monday.

ODH recommends the following to protect you from illness:

• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Dry your hands with a clean towel or air-dried hands.
• If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• If you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve. Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Stay home when you are ill.
• Avoid contact with sick people.
