Covid-19: Royal Glamorgan Hospital will cease service as cases increase

Last week, two wards of Royal Glamorgan Hospital were closed due to a coronavirus outbreak.
Planned surgery was temporarily suspended in the hospital to address the increase in coronavirus cases.
Patients who are normally taken to the A & E at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant in an emergency are also sent elsewhere as part of the plan.
At a hospital in Rhondda Cynon Tuff, one of Wales’ local blockade areas, 82 cases are associated with on-site infections.
The interim measure will take effect on Wednesday at 14:00 BST.
Royal Glamorgan will have only a few emergency cancer surgeries left and the A & E department will remain open for carry-on patients, while the Tirion Maternity Center will be closed until October 5.
Emergency cases are taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, the Prince Charles Hospital in Mercertedville, or the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff.
The latest move follows the two wards that closed last week.
Paul Mears, CW of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, said: “We are aware of the concerns raised by these temporary changes and would like to assure patients and the community that managing this outbreak is our number one priority.
“Our team is working hard to take all necessary steps to achieve this and is taking a variety of swift and decisive actions to control this outbreak.”
Members of Pontypridd’s MP Alex Davides Jones and Sened Mick Antoniu have issued a joint statement saying they are “extremely concerned” about the outbreak in the hospital.
“Unfortunately, this outbreak reflects an increase in Covid-19 infections in Rhondda Cynon Tough and we understand that locals are very concerned about this development,” they said. It was.
“We are calling for an emergency meeting with the Health Commission to discuss plans to stabilize the situation and minimize the impact on those who will undergo surgery and other treatments.”
