Covid: 170 test positive at Cornwall slaughterhouse
Tests have found 170 cases of Covid-19 among workers at a pork processing plant in Cornwall.
A staff of 500 Pilgrims Pride in the pool near Cambourne was tested in a contact tracing exercise by the NHS.
Most people who tested positive were unaware that they were infected with Covid-19 and had no symptoms.
According to the Cornwall Council, they and the people they are in close contact with are isolated according to government guidelines.
Cornwall continues to be the region with the highest number of cases in the region.
From week to Sunday, the number increased from 115 to 180. The infection rate is 31.5 per 100,000.
“In total, about 500 employees were tested in the factory, and the majority of cases that tested positive were asymptomatic,” said the Cornwall Council.
Rachel Wigglesworth, Interim Director of Public Health at the Cornwall Council, said:
“Proactive testing” “helps us take immediate action to limit the spread of Covid in the community,” said council leader Julian German.
“From the beginning,” Pilgrim’s Pride said in a statement, “We have been sincerely working to do everything we can to protect our employees and our communities.”
