Once burned, full-service Woodland restaurants and other companies are taking a wait-and-see approach before the doors are fully reopened.
On Tuesday, restaurants, cinemas, gyms, etc. were approved to reopen on Wednesday. However, as of Wednesday morning, the companies contacted were hesitant to do so.
After the first shutdown in March, the restrictions were relaxed and were scheduled to resume in mid-June. The number of incidents began to increase again, mainly due to family gatherings, and on July 13, Yolo County was closed again by order from Governor Gavin Newsom.
Thanks to that switchback, some employers are taking a slower approach than June, when health officials said they could resume by July.
Two of the most popular restaurants on the main street do just that.
“I’ve heard the news and I’m planning, but take a conservative approach to restart and just wait and see,” said James Lombardi, owner and operator of the Burger Saloon.
The Burger Saloon has used some of its recent downtime to significantly repaint its appearance into brighter, more distinctive colors. The owner has also worked on internal improvements. People who eat have been eating outdoors since they were allowed.
As Yolo County rises from the purple layer to the red layer, the restaurant can eat directly, but it must be eaten with 25% of the maximum capacity or 100 people, whichever is less. Twenty-five percent of that can cause more problems than a solution.
“Opening at 25% may prove to be more challenging than helping,” Lombardi said. “To do that, we need to rethink the way we do business. It’s not enough to go back to the full-service model and limit the people we can bring inside.” How fast can we bring people here? ” I’m not thinking.
Down the street, Father Paddy’s owner, Pat Redmond, is also watching what happens in the coming weeks.
“If I’m going to open it, that’s right,” Redmond said. “We’re not ready for that. I don’t have staff to open up. And the interior isn’t prepared for it. Once you set it up, it opens.”
Redmond, like any other restaurant, recently built a parklet where people can sit outside and eat. The idea of Parklet allows the restaurant to use the parking space in front of the entrance. Father Paddy’s, El Charo, and Las Brasus, on the south side of Main Street, have all created elaborate parklets in the last four weeks.
Due to the relaxation of restrictions, cases may increase first in the coming weeks. Redmond says he will wait a few weeks to monitor numbers and estimates until the restaurant is ready to let people through the door.
For now, Father Paddy’s continues to serve outdoors. This is what Redmond is incredibly pleased with.
“This outdoor setup is very good,” Redmond said. “People love it. We’re back to serving the way we want to. We’re offering that way, not the volume we want to serve.”
Counter service facilities such as Las Brasus and Elephant Shack have decided to allow people up to a 25% limit.
In addition to restaurants, cinemas, gyms and churches are also allowed to reopen.
Interim health officer Larissa May said at a supervisory board meeting on Tuesday that under the new classification, retailers could move from 25% to 50% capacity, museums could allow 25% capacity indoors and worship. The place explained that it can operate at 25% capacity of 100, and those with a small number of people, and shopping centers (including malls and swap meats) can reduce the capacity of the food court and open it at 50% capacity. I can do it. The gym can be reopened, but the capacity is 10%.
As of Tuesday night, the county reported 2,825 COVID-19 cases. So far, 55 people have died and 186 have been hospitalized. The county’s adjusted daily case rate is 3.1 and the test positive rate is 2.5%.
May said these charges meet the following less restrictive Orange Tier 3 criteria, but Yolo County must stay in Red Tear 2 for three weeks before moving again.
Mei said this meant that October 20 would be the earliest time for the county to move to the next tier, as long as the number of cases continued to decline.
For schools from county kindergarten to high school, this change can mean that change is imminent. The school district can decide to reopen school after a two-week deficit, as long as it complies with state and county health directives.
According to the California Public Health Service, if a county’s data deteriorates for two weeks, the county will be returned to a more restrictive hierarchy.
