People with colds and flu usually show symptoms within 14 days, but people with coronavirus can show symptoms within 7 to 25 days.

Frustratingly, some people infected with Covid-19 show no symptoms at all.

Currently, there is no vaccine to prevent Covid-19. The best way to prevent infection is to avoid exposure to the virus.

Influenza vaccines are the only and most important way to prevent seasonal flu.

The CDC consistently recommends getting the flu vaccine by the end of October. This may help prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed by flu and coronavirus patients at the same time.

Dr. Jarod Bagatelle of Upstate Medical College says that vaccination and then flu can alleviate the symptoms.

“We’ll be a little more tolerant than if we didn’t get the flu vaccine,” said Bagatelle, who heads the upstate flu vaccination effort. “So I take that opportunity and no one knows who will be less ill than would otherwise be.”

Dr. Stephen Thomas, Head of Infectious Diseases at Upstate Medical College, said influenza is more dangerous and potentially fatal than most people realize.

According to the CDC, the flu killed 188 children in the United States during the 2019-2020 flu season. From 2019 to 2020, only 21% of children nationwide were vaccinated against the flu, according to the CDC. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the coronavirus killed 103 children in the United States as of September 10.

Overall, the flu killed more than 24,000 people of all ages and caused more than 410,000 hospitalizations last season.
