Ohio surpasses 5,000 COVID-19 deaths
Ohio has lost more than 5,000 lives to the coronavirus.
Six deaths were reported on Monday, and the state crossed a tough milestone.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, the state-wide death toll on Monday was 5,005. According to the Johns Hopkins University Virus Tracking System, Ohio deaths account for about 2% of the country’s approximately 215,000 COVID-19 deaths.
According to the US Census Bureau, the death toll from COVID-19 at 5,005 exceeds the total population of West Jefferson, a village in Madison County, 18 miles west of Columbus, with an estimated population of 4,431. It also has less than 200 people in the total population of Obetz, an estimated 5,196 village in southeastern Franklin County.

The 5,000 Ohio people who died in COVID-19 outnumber the combined number of military personnel in the states who died in the Vietnam War (2,997) and the Korean War (1,777).
Ohio ranks 25th in deaths per 100,000. COVID-19 killed one of 2,335 Ohio as of October 11. Mortality leaders: New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Louisiana.

With 5,005 Ohio deaths to date, COVID-19 is at least the seventh leading cause of death in the state after heart disease, cancer, accidents, lung disease, stroke and Alzheimer’s disease.
The average annual death toll in Ohio from COVID-19 to date is less than about 7,200 in Ohio due to lung cancer, but the average annual death toll from colorectal and breast cancer is 1,755. More than combined.
According to state data, six new deaths reported on Monday were less than the three-week average of 18 new deaths reported per day.
As of Monday, an additional 1,430 Ohio were COVID-19 positive. According to the state, the total number of Ohio people diagnosed with the virus is currently 170,179.

According to the State Department of Health, Ohio’s average positive test rate for the past seven days rose to 3.7% on Saturday. This is the latest date the data is available.
Hospitalization on Monday increased by 43. This is below the three-week average of 77 new hospitalizations per day. According to the state, Monday’s intensive care unit admission increased by 6, below the three-week average of 11 new ICU admissions daily.
As of Monday, 949 Ohio people remained hospitalized for COVID-19, of which 242 were infected with the ICU and 123 were ventilated.
Franklin County reported an additional 186 cases on Monday, with no new deaths, according to state data. The new case increases by 0.6% in the Franklin County case.
According to the state, Franklin County has reported a total of 29,327 cases and 635 deaths.
