One died and 13 more infected after COVID-19 outbreak at Harborview Medical Center

Lynch believes that healthcare professionals are more likely to be alert and ill and bring it to units that are still active but not accepting new patients.

The outbreak was first detected between September 29th and October 2nd.
Harborview spent a week and a half last week testing staff and patients. Healthcare workers who did not wear eye protection in the unit were potentially exposed, according to Lynch. Approximately 30 employees were quarantined for precautionary measures.
The three patients still being treated were hospitalized for more than 14 days when infected with the virus. This is longer than it normally takes for the symptoms of COVID-19 to appear. Lynch said he was trying to figure out how the virus invaded and spread the unit.
“We are investigating overlapping hours, shifts, and days between patients and healthcare professionals … trying to provide some additional insights,” Lynch said. ..

Outbreak-affected surgical units are the units that the patient goes to before and after surgery, and the units that are involved in trauma.
A total of 30 people are currently quarantined, according to Lynch, but it will take some time to determine if the outbreak has been suppressed in Harbor View.

Lynch said these outbreaks are likely to increase unless the virus is controlled.
