Ear medicine makes the mother look “monster-like” and blisters foam all over her face

The traumatized mother claimed that drugs that help cure ear infections made her look like an intolerable blistering monster.

After suffering from an ear infection, Rachel Carrie was prescribed antibiotics and paracetamol by her doctor-a drug that her mother said she had taken many times before.

But this time, a 38-year-old woman from Dallas, Texas, USA, began to feel sick later that night and noticed that the skin behind her neck began to “foam” the next morning.

After returning home three times in the next three days, Rachel was eventually hospitalized and stayed in the burn ward for 12 days as her condition deteriorated.

The mother was suffering from Stevens-Johnson syndrome. This is a rare and serious skin and mucous membrane disorder that kills the top layers of the skin.

This is usually caused by a response to medication.

19-year-old Taylor’s mother, Rachel, said the blisters were intolerable and felt as if they were being attacked by fire ants biting her whole body.

Rachel said she was traumatized after seeing herself in the mirror when the blisters spread all over her face and her lips and eyes became inflamed and distorted.

Rachel, who is involved in data management and analytics at the university, said: “I got an ear infection and received emergency treatment.

“I was prescribed the antibiotic amoxicillin and paracetamol Tylenol. I took it around 7 pm in the evening.

“Shortly afterwards, I began to feel itchy and noticed that the skin behind my neck was bubbling.

“I used to take these medicines, but for some reason my body refused them this time.

“I went to the emergency room three times in three days, but finally I was admitted to the burn ward for the fourth time.”

Rachel eventually stayed in the burn unit for 12 days.

“Along the way, they did a biopsy of my skin, and that’s when they confirmed it was Stevens-Johnson Syndrome,” she continued.

“It was very painful. I feel like it’s burning inside out.

“I felt like I was bitten by thousands of fire ants.

“It was traumatic and intense to see my face and skin look very different.

“I didn’t recognize myself when I looked in the mirror. It was like a monster.”

Rachel said the first sign was that she began to feel uncomfortable and itchy.

Over the next few days, she noticed foaming skin and swollen lips and eyes.

She is now calling on people in the medical field to learn more about Stevens-Johnson Syndrome after claiming to have returned home three times from a local hospital.

She said: “The first sign was itching and burning sensation on my skin. Then it began to foam, especially the skin behind my neck.

“Then my eyes and lips were hurt and began to swell.

“I wish the doctor knew more about it, but even if I could see myself changing, I didn’t have to go to the ER four times.

“Education and awareness of this condition and a pharmacy label warning that SJS is a serious side effect are required.

“I shouldn’t have been to the hospital four times for them to recognize and acknowledge me.”

Rachel still suffers from dry eye and mild skin discoloration.

The mother shares her story for the first time since the incident occurred in November 2019 to raise awareness.

She said. “It was a terrifying time, but my faith in God guided me through this experience.

“I tried to maintain my spirit by praying, listening to the scriptures, and getting encouragement from my family and friends.

“I’ve had a lot of experience in my life, and I knew I could get over it.

“The doctors were surprised at how quickly I was healing.

“I thought it might look like that forever. I didn’t know how to get back to work, but I remained loyal.

“I still have scars, but I know that one day I will be 100% healed by overcoming the worst.

“After experiencing this, I became very strong so that I could conquer anything.”
