“That’s what we all take responsibility for”: Manchester public health bosses ask households not to mix

Manchester’s director of public health pleaded with people not to mix with other households while the city was fighting to reduce coronavirus infection rates.

David Regan emphasized that people need to “take responsibility” to reduce the spread of the virus by adhering to social distance restrictions.

Greater Manchester will move to Tier 3 of the UK’s highest coronavirus restriction from 00:01 on Friday.

“In Manchester, we know that domestic infections are still a major factor in infection rates.

“We now really want to do everything we can to reduce infections.

“What we are doing now will reduce the pressure on hospitals, social welfare and long-term care facilities in the difficult months of the coming months, so it cannot be fully emphasized.”

Professor Jane Eddolston, The University of Manchester NHS Foundation Trust’s Joint Group Medical Director and Consultant for Intensive Care Medicine reiterated Regan’s claim.

She said: “ Now is the time for each of us to take personal responsibility for responding to the virus and reducing the transmission of the virus.

“There are patients who are particularly susceptible to this, patients with chronic illnesses. They know who they are and their families will know. As much as we can to protect them. It’s really important to do that. “

During the first wave, about 22,000 people were shielded in Manchester-and many of them “haven’t returned to society yet.”

Regan said he plans to act on feedback from people who protect happiness and mental health and balance it with virus protection. He said practical factors such as humanitarian aid and grocery shopping would be considered.

He said long-term care facilities also needed to be protected.
