Hospitalization increased significantly after three deaths from coronavirus in Orange County
According to the County Health Service, hospitalizations for coronaviruses that cause respiratory illness COVID-19 surged Thursday in Orange County, killing three more people, for a total of 13 people.
The county count increased to 656, up about 10% from the previous day. The institution said the cumulative number of cases was based on 7,791 tests.
The agency said on Thursday’s update that 115 people were hospitalized for the virus, of which 47 received intensive care.
On Wednesday, 67 coronavirus patients were in a local hospital and 31 received intensive care. This will increase Thursday’s snapshots by 72% for overall hospital stays and 52% for intensive care hospital stays.
Thirteen deaths were scattered across different age groups. Seven were 65 or older, three were 45-64, one was 35-44, and two were 25-34. Seven are men and six are women. County health officials did not provide further information about the dead.
The following is the latest number of cases in some cities, per 10,000 residents.
- Irvine: 65 (2.3 cases per 10,000 inhabitants)
- Newport Beach: 60 (6.9 per 10,000 people). Twelve of them are in the city’s Corona del Mar area, and the county began showing individually on Thursday.
- Anaheim: 60 (1.7 cases per 10,000 residents)
- Huntington Beach: 44 (2.2 per 10,000 inhabitants)
- Laguna Beach: 28 (12 per 10,000 people)
- Santa Ana: 40 (1.2 per 10,000 residents)
- Costa Mesa: 14 (1.2 cases per 10,000 inhabitants)
- Fountain Valley: 8 (1.4 per 10,000 inhabitants)
