After 24 hours without updates, Israel will post 559 new coronavirus cases

The Ministry of Health said 559 new coronavirus cases were recorded on Sunday after not releasing new data on the pandemic 24 hours a day.

The ministry did not report the virus numbers recorded on Saturday due to a technical glitch. As a result, on Monday morning, health officials released totals for both Saturday and Sunday.

According to the data, 249 people were COVID-19 positive on Saturday after 6,488 tests. On Sunday, health officials conducted 20,835 tests, raising the national infection rate to 3%.

There are currently 942 patients fighting the virus in hospitals, of which 506 are in critical condition and 206 are ventilated. The official death toll has increased to 2,397.

Since last Tuesday, more than 100 new cases have been diagnosed in at least five Israeli cities. These are Jerusalem 766, Bnei Brak 258, Ashdod 154, Tel Aviv-Yafo 133, and Modiin Elit 113.

The infection rate in Jerusalem is currently 3.7%, Bnei Brak 3.8%, Ashdod 2%, Tel Aviv 1.3% and Modiin Elit 2.9%.

However, in some municipalities, the infection rate is significantly higher than the national average. For example, at Umm al-Fah, the percentage is 8.8%, at Magidal Shams 8.4%, and at Lower Galilee Bawaina Nujidat 7.8%.
