San Mateo County reports 46 new cases of coronavirus, no deaths
San Mateo County, California — Health in San Mateo County report 46 coronaviruses were added on Thursday.
According to the latest report, the county-wide case count is 11,278.
The county did not report additional coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday, leaving only 159 deaths for COVID-19.
As of Thursday, there were 14 COVID-19 patients admitted to San Mateo County, two of whom were being treated in the intensive care unit.
A team of scientists at UC Berkeley has set up a pop-up lab elsewhere around the Bay Area to test wastewater from the entire Bay Area and monitor for signs of new coronaviruses. Said on Thursday.
Coronavirus researchers have observed that people infected with COVID-19 tend to shed the virus from their feces and can easily monitor the spread of the virus throughout the neighborhood or city.

Nelson leads a team of scientists studying wastewater in the Bay Area in a 1,200-square-foot lab in the empty section of the University’s Hildebrand Hall. The team plans to monitor some sewers (the area where all sewers flow into a single pipe to facilitate sampling) for the project.
So far, the lab is only analyzing wastewater from thousands of people and can process about 30 samples per week from 11 wastewater agencies around the Bay Area. By the end of the year, the team wants to scale up to analyze about 200 samples per week.
As of Thursday afternoon, 8,927,472 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the United States, with 228,439 coronavirus-related deaths.
