Mesa County Public Health Service announces new restrictions due to dramatic rise in COVID-19
Grand Junction, Colorado (KJCT)-With the surge in COVID-19 cases in the county, health officials have called for caution and announced new restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.
Mesa County Public Health announced new guidelines on Thursday. This will take effect immediately, following state instructions. The new guidelines added to the local public health order are:
1. Outdoor events can occur with up to 75 people per specified activity or area
2. Personal gatherings are limited to 10 people in 2 households or less
3. Indoor events may occur with less than 25 people per room (indoor events are organized activities beyond the normal operation of the facility or facility, such as concerts, receptions, dances, fairs, celebrations, etc. Defined)
Incidents have skyrocketed in the county over the past few weeks, forcing Mesa County to lose its Protect Our Neighbor difference on October 26 and return to Safer at Home Level 1 status. County health officials say the spread of infection in the area is due to the rapid increase in the number of cases. This means that case investigators cannot track the source of infection.
“That is, members of the infected community are unknowingly telling others about this, which causes problems,” said Heidi Drago, Epidemiology Program Manager for Mesa County Public Health.
Apart from cases, COVID hospitalizations are also increasing in the county.
“COVID hospitalizations have increased significantly, which is of great concern,” said Christomas, president and CEO of the community hospital. “If the current trajectory continues, the ability to respond properly can be compromised.”
The county announced 45 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, reporting that 12 residents are currently hospitalized for it. The county has a 2-week positive rate of 5.7% and a 2-week cumulative incidence of 337.6. Both numbers are above the state threshold and return to Protect Our Neighbor Variance.
